Knife Shows and Related Events:

I feel blessed to be a part of this community. I recall my first knife show in 2001 where the Bybee family picked me up from my dorm and packed me in the back of their Bronco for a 5 hour (non-stop) drive down to Eugene. For me, a large part of the knife collecting hobby has been "virtual" - the online communities where you can interact with people who share a common passion but who you may have never met before in person. That first show really opened my eyes. I feel a large part of what makes this community as a whole so great is the personal interactions that take place at knife shows - both in room during the show, and in the evenings after the show. I have noticed a trend recently, possibly partially due to the current economy, that sales at shows are suffering. Collectors can buy online and save themselves the expense of travel to a knife show. I personally feel that buying fewer knives but being able to go to shows, interact with the makers and see their work in person is a better approach.
